Kids’ Mental Health King County

The Kids’ Mental Health King County (KMHKC) program is designed to support school-aged children, youth, and their families in navigating mental health and substance use services across King County.

 

King County Mental Health Youth Services 

King County offers a continuum of programs and services for youth, starting with connecting youth to community and promoting their mental health and wellbeing, responding to youth in crisis, preventing substance use, intervening early, and offering options for treatment and support in recovery.

 

Free Therapy for Seattle Teens

The City of Seattle is proud to provide access to free mental health care for young people in Seattle. These resources are designed to create accessible options for youth to receive care in the best ways for their mental wellness needs.  Find care now with one of our partner providers. Our partners offer culturally affirming, in-person and virtual counseling services in 1:1 and group formats, with options to receive in-language care.

 

(CARE) Community Advocacy Restorative Education Clinic by Odessa Brown

The CARE Clinic is a safe, welcoming space for young people up to age 21 to get medical and behavioral healthcare if they have experienced or been exposed to trauma. The CARE Clinic is open to all families, regardless of their ability to pay.

 

Connections Kirkland Urgent Care for Youth

Visit Connections Kirkland’s Behavioral Health Urgent Care for:

  • Non-emergency crises: Intense feelings of depression, anxiety, or panic attacks.
  • Substance use concerns: Support for drug or alcohol-related issues.
  • Medication needs: Assistance with psychiatric medication refills or management.
  • Support & Guidance: Access to recovery coaching, safety planning, and connections to social services like sober living or peer support.

 

988 and Crisis Response Teams

Call or Text 988 anytime to talk to a local crisis counselor and get immediate support. Request a Crisis Response Team: By calling or texting 988, families or youth can request a team from the YMCA to meet you anywhere in King County for in-person support. Their services are free and they follow up with youth and families for up to eight weeks after a crisis.  Here are some situations you might call and request a Crisis Team for:

  • Conflict at home with your children or caregiver
  • Self-harm
  • Thoughts of suicide
  • Aggression or violence
  • Sudden changes in your child’s behavior
  • Disruption in family

 

Go to the Emergency Room (ER) or Call 911 for:

  • Immediate risk of harm: Active suicidal thoughts or attempts.
  • Overdose: Any suspected drug or alcohol overdose.
  • Safety risks: Actively violent or aggressive behavior.
  • Medical emergencies: Physical injuries, seizures, or other medical problems.
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital also offers Psychiatric Urgent Care for youth.

Legal Services

TeamChild

Provides free legal services and advocacy for youth involved in the juvenile justice system, child welfare, education, and mental health systems in Washington State. By helping youth secure housing, stay in school, and access community-based services, TeamChild addresses systemic barriers and empowers young people to achieve their goals.
